BOARDMASTERS

well, what a weekend that was! We cruised down, or should I say got stuck in trafic jams and got lost Friday avro, got there just in time to pitch the tent and get over to the main stage - had the best time ever checking out the music, surfing, skating, biking and loads more, think I might have drunk my own bodyweight in relentless over the the weekend though which can't be a good thing. Can't decide what the best part of the weekend was but getting stuck at the top of the big wheel or my icecream have to be up there...No more to say - check out the pictures!!!!!

Lundy Island

I was very lucky to have the opportunity to get out to Lundy Marine Nature Reserve to do some kayaking and snorkeling last week. We boarded the Fast Cat - Obsession II at around 9:00am Sunday morning @ Ilfracombe harbour and headed out to the Island. The weather was perfect with full sun and light winds. I was dropped off at the landing bay in the south east of the Island with the plan to kayak to the North of the Island around Gannets rock. This has to be the most amazing paddles I have ever done - right through the nature reserve, with sightings of Razorbills, Black backed gulls, oyster catchers and even puffens up above on the cliffs and on the water while Seals followed the kayak checking out what was going on. Here are the photos and a video from the Trip. I would like to take the oppertunity to thank Andrew Bengey of Obsession Boat Charters for making this possible, please check out http://www.obsessionboatcharters.co.uk/ for more info and bookings.

Fishing

Since buying my prowler 13 Kayak 4 years ago, I have tried my best to catch a Bass with no success! Mainly because of my lack of patience to sit there for potentially hours on end casting a piece of fish shaped metal into the sea and winding it back again. Thursday morning however, that all changed when, after about an hour of fishing, I hooked my first Bass and what a fish it was! I have no idea of the weight but it was wider than the kayak. Now this might come as a bit of a shock but he was returned to live another day. If I had more time and didn't have to be in work, he might have been on the BBQ! Some pictures from the last few days.

Dusting off the Kayak

Still stuck in and incredibly long flat spell, well, incredibly long for April anyway!! Not surfed for a week now and things aren’t looking much better for next week either. So, what to do? At least unlike most flat spells here in the UK, the weather is actually quite nice, even reached 14 degrees here yesterday! Like a lot of people here in Devon who start to go slightly mad after even just a few days of not surfing and end up resembling nothing more than a fruitcake after a week or more of not surfing, I dusted off the Kayak and went for a paddle down to the end of baggy point and back. Water was really clear; you could see the bottom 4-6 meters down, which left me optimistic in the hope of catching some fish for the BBQ. As it turns out, there were no fish, it's still a little early in the season for fishing and I caught nothing! I was passed by a large shoal or grey mullet halfway down the point but being vegi, they would have no interest in my spinner! Still, had a very enjoyable paddle, better than being stuck at work any day! Here are a few pictures of my paddle, BBQ, and the last of the surf over a week ago (just to remind you what waves actually look like!)...

Sundown

Well, after a month of swells, its now gone flat once more and looking flat for some time too!! (you got to love Devon) Its not all bad though, had some great waves in between working. Combsgate come to life late March with some of the best waves seen there in months. There was the most amazing sunset over the bay last night and to top it all, Hawaii is now booked for a month over December/January!
